ST. LOUIS, Dec. 2, 2020—Core & Main LP, a leading U.S. distributor of water, sewer and fire protection products, received a Municipal Leadership Award from the Alliance for PE Pipe.
Core & Main supplied HDPE pipe and installation expertise for the award-winning municipal project in Carlsbad and Vista, Calif.
Partnering with the cities of Carlsbad and Vista. The capital improvement sewer project benefits the Buena Sanitation District (BSD) and the city of Carlsbad by separating each agency’s wastewater (sewage), which will provide additional flow capacity for the future growth of their customer bases. The existing pipeline was constructed in 1965 and is currently undersized and used by both BSD and Carlsbad. Vista will maintain and use the new pipeline for BSD, and Carlsbad will retain and use the existing pipeline. Separating out the wastewater benefits both agencies by providing additional flow capacity for the future growth of their customer bases.
This project was engineered to meet capacity flow and required pressures so we used various pipe sizes and DRs. Using HDPE made this possible. A zero-leak rate was another HDPE benefit on the engineering side of the project. Core & Main had initially provided manway tees to install in the field – but determined better methods that included customizing these fittings in-house in Core & Main’s Corona fusible center. The customized fittings made the actual installation less labor intensive in the field. Our fusion technician was on call to meet the contractor’s schedule. In addition, our vast inventory and supply chain allowed us to provide the materials as needed and onsite to keep the project moving.
