WATER METER UPGRADES ASSIST GROWING IOWA TOWN
Tiffin, Iowa, has experienced rapid growth, expanding from a small town of about 450 residents to nearly 7,000. As the community grew, managing its essential water infrastructure became more challenging, especially with manual meter readings that consumed significant time and resources. The city needed a more efficient way to monitor water usage to keep up with its expansion and improve service to residents.
To address these challenges, Tiffin partnered with Core & Main and Master Meter to implement a fixed-base Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. This upgrade replaced the old, labor-intensive meter reading process with a network of base stations, repeaters, and cloud-based data access. The new system allows for real-time monitoring and alerts, enabling city staff to quickly detect issues such as running toilets and notify residents promptly. This proactive approach helps prevent water loss and protects customers from unexpectedly high bills.
The collaboration with Core & Main has been key to Tiffin’s success in modernizing its water utility. Core & Main provided not only the technology but ongoing support and training to ensure smooth integration and operation. This partnership has allowed Tiffin to transform how it serves its growing community, demonstrating the importance of trusted, innovative solutions in managing infrastructure for a fast-expanding small city.
